The answers to this weeks five questions will be posted on the 18 February 2000.

    1. During flight at zero angle of attack the pressure along the upper surface of the wing would be

    a) less than atmospheric pressure

    b) equal to atmospheric pressure

    c) greater than atmospheric pressure

    2. The angle of attack of a wing directly controls the

    a) amount of airflow above and below the wind

    b) point at which the CG is located

    c) distribution of high and low pressure acting on the wing

    3. The maximum allowable airspeed with flaps extended (Vfe) is lower than cruising airspeed because

    a) the additional lift and drag created would overload the wing structure at higher speeds

    b) the flaps will retract automatically at higher speeds

    c) too much drag is induced

    4. An aircraft with turbo-jet engines employed in the public transport operation or public transport of cargo operation category from one aerodrome to another shall carry sufficient fuel to fly to and to execute an approach and a missed approach at the aerodrome of destination and thereafter to fly

    a) to a suitable alternate aerodrome and to fly for 30 minutes at holding speed at 1 500 ft above the elevation of the alternate aerodrome under standard temperature conditions

    b) to the most critical, in terms of fuel consumption alternate aerodrome and to holds thereafter for 45 minutes

    c) to a suitable alternate aerodrome and thereafter for 20 minutes at holding speed at 1 500 ft above the elevation of the alternate aerodrome

    5. Extended flight over water in aircraft not equipped with life rafts is limited to

    a) gliding distance from the shore except during take off and the initial climb

    b) to routes where no portion of the flight is further than 90 nm from the shore calculated at the normal cruising speed of the aircraft in nil wind conditions

    c) to routes where no portion of the flight is further than 90 minutes from the shore calculated at the cruising speed of the aircraft
