SHURLOK AEROBATICS TEAM HOME PAGE

Shurlok, South Africa’s leading supplier of electronic automotive components are the proud sponsors of the country’s leading civilian aerobatic team, a team ranked amongst the top display teams in the world.

Comprising five airline pilots, the team flies aerobatic Pitts Special aircraft, two in the two seater S-2B two-seat version and one S-2S single seater.

The Shurlok Team is led by SCULLY LEVIN, an internationally known aircraft pilot with over 850 air displays to his credit who has won the title of South African National Aerobatic Champion on three occasions. His principal career is as an airline pilot with S.A.A. His fellow team members are also accomplished aerobatic pilots. They are JEFF BIRCH, JOHAN DRIES, ELLIS LEVIN and CHRIS TWYFORD.

The Shurlok Aerobatic Team’s routine includes a mixture of formation maneuvers. In close formation they perform their own specially devised combination of looping and rolling figures, stall turns and often breath-taking snap rolls, which only an expertly drilled team can manage to synchronise.

The most exciting maneuvers in the display consist of individual team members performing high speed opposition maneuvers. Examples are the Chicken Roll, the Opposing Loop and the sensational "Switchblade" which is a high spot of the show. This is a breathtaking cross-over of the aircraft converging from different directions which depends on split-second timing.

The Shurlok Aerobatic Team displays a unique combination of grace, beauty, power and speed. Their performances are tremendously exciting without compromising the safety of the team – nor of those enjoying their precision flying. The team provides spectacular viewing with an ease achieved through its dedication to quality and precision.
