The answers to last weeks questions (01 Jun-15 Jun) are:
1:B 2:B 3:C 4:A 5:A
The answers to this weeks five questions will be posted on the 01 July 2000.
1. When back elevator pressure is applied in an aircraft with a clockwise rotating propeller (as seen from the rear) gyroscopic action will cause a tendency for the aircraft to
a) yaw to the right
b) yaw to the left
c) pitch up
2. The change in the fuel/air mixture when carburettor heat is applied is
a) a decrease in RPM resulting from the lean mixture
b) the fuel/air mixture becomes leaner
c) the fuel/air mixture becomes richer
3. If the mixture control is not leaned as altitude increases the
a) volume of air entering the carburettor remains constant and the amount of fuel decreases
b) volume of air entering the carburettor decreases and the amount of fuel decreases
c) density of air entering the carburettor decreases and the amount of fuel remains constant
4. The actions that would be most appropriate for minimising hazards of wingtip vortices when cleared for take off behind a large jet are
a) take-off and climb at maximum speed to attain positive aircraft control in the event turbulence is encountered
b) taxi into position on the runway and hold until the vortices subside
c) be airborne prior to reaching the point where the jet rotated and climb above the flight path.
5. In severe turbulence it is best to attempt to maintain
a) constant altitude
b) level flight attitude
c) constant altitude and constant airspeed
